No one would like to see a new law introduced to tell us how to drive our vehicles but only 46% of people surveyed beleived that road safety campaigns are having an effect in driver awareness. We are campaigning to introduce a law in the UK which will force the Driving Standards Agency to change the driving test to include the SDMO stance, this we beleive will educate both new and old drivers about the risks involved when emergency crews are working at the roadside
Many people are killed or seriously injured on Britain`s hard shoulders each year as a result of drivers not giving emergency services room to work, the number of accidents can be greatly reduced if drivers simply slowed their speed and when safe to do so move over into the 2nd carriageway when they approach an emergency vehicle parked with its emergency lights illuminated, The type of vehicle that we are classing as emergency are all the 999 services, rescue & recovery vehicles (inc breakdown & tyre fitting services) and the highways agency vehicles (HATO & Bear).
With your help we can push to have the campaign debated in the houses of parliament and hopefully have a law put in place that will save the life of someone who was simply doing their job. We need 100,000 signatures by 03rd May 2013 so please offer us your support by signing the E-Petition and following us on facebook & Twitter (simply click on the tabs in the banner)

There are times when people may feel it is okay to speed when driving in a car.
Some think that is only on a race track. Others like a quick trip down the German Autobahn. You might even take a gamble on a late night blast down quiet motorways. One time it’s never appropriate, is when there are people in the road.
Numerous people are killed or seriously injured each year on British roads where vehicles collide with stationary vehicles and their drivers. It’s not just broken down drivers at risk, those who try to help them out are also in serious danger every time they attempt repair or recovery. Breakdown services like the AA or RAC, emergency workers from the Police, Ambulance or Fire Brigade are also putting their lives on the line each day.
